East End Main Street

Grant Money Available for East End Businesses

The East End Main Street Program (EEMS) is proud to announce the third cycle of the Façade Renovation Assistance Program for businesses located on the East End of Charleston.

It is our hope that these funds will be used as an incentive and motivation for property and business owners to renovate the facades of their buildings in a manner that keeps with the historically appropriate feel for the East End neighborhood and spruces up their business making it more attractive for current and future customers.

Already, East End Main Street has invested $12,000 in past cycles which has spurred more than $160,000 (and growing!) in façade investment on the East End. Many businesses along Washington Street East have benefited and already we can see a dramatic improvement to the aestitics and fresh appearances of our businesses. Signage, awnings, landscaping, painting and removal of inappropriate metal facades are just a few of the projects that these funds have been applied towards.

In this new grant cycle, EEMS design committee volunteers have $20,000 to invest in our community. Properties available for consideration are to be located on East Washington Street between Greenbrier and Leon Sullivan Way, the area known as the “Warehouse” district (including Smith Street and Morris Street properties) and areas on the East End included in the East End Urban Renewal Areas (Shrewbury/Smith Street Renewal Plan and East End Community Renewal Plan) in the City of Charleston, West Virginia.

Interested parties can review the official map (listed below) and turn in their applications (available below) by the first Thursday of each month to be considered that same month. We anticipate a high demand for funds, the sooner an application is received, the better. We will announce when the funds have been exhausted.
